How to get what you want out of life
Goal Setting
Are you overwhelmed with commitments? Does your life feel out of control?
Do you feel as if you are not accomplishing anything?
Goal setting helps us feel a sense of purpose and accomplishment.
Think of a goal like the rudder on a sailing boat. A sailing boat without a rudder is practically useless as you have limited control of where you are going.
A rudder not only orients a sailing boat and gives it direction, but it also helps the boat to get to where it is going. Your life is like the sailing boat. Goal setting helps to orient our lives, gives us direction and a sense of accomplishment and achievement. If we have purpose, we tend to respond to life’s daily challenges in a meaningful way. If we have no intentions or goal, we can end up going from one situation to the next without direction or purpose.
Using the term: ‘Intention Setting’, adds ‘Heart and Soul’ to your goal.
Setting an intention gives your goal a major boost because we add in the feeling of ‘How’, you want to feel when you have achieved your goal. Adding in an emotional element is like booster fuel to a rocket!
The SMART components of goal setting:
Specific: Get specific; what, how & why?
Measurable: What signs/results along the way will show you, you are on track to your goal?
Action: What action steps need to be taken?
Realistic: Is your action plan & goal achievable?
Time frame: Give it one!
Now for a SMARTer goal add:
Emotion: How will you feel when you have achieved your goal?
When you are finished a task or ‘have-too’, how will you feel?
WRITE: it down
